"Your new favorite band = goodbyemotel" The Brag, Sydney Australia
“goodbyemotel are so good they don’t need to capitalize their band name… on the cusp of stardom”
Huffington Post (U.S.)
Hurricane is the first release from Brooklyn-based Australian band goodbyemotel’s new album “IF”. Produced by Kevin Killen (U2/Peter Gabriel), recorded by Andy Baldwin (Bjork/Cat Empire) and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros/M83) in New York City where the band has been based for the past year.
Fronted by 23 year-old Swedish singer/guitarist Gustaf Sjodin Enstrom along with Aussies Tom Marks, Scott Pioro, David Schmidt and New Yorker Paul Amorese, the guys have been busy touring the US, Japan and Australia. On a recent visit home they filled the Northcote Social Club and played at Adelaide Oval for the Crows v’s Tigers AFL game for 50,000 people. goodbyemotel start a three-month US tour in September, including CMJ 2014 in New York. In addition to recent tours of the US, Japan and Australia, 2014 has already seen an appearance at SXSW, where they played the SPIN Magazine media party with some of the worlds most hyped bands, performances on major US TV, appearances in Rolling Stone US and on major US political website/blog the Huffington Post, as well as their music video winning the MTVu freshmen spot. goodbyemotel’s music has featured on major TV shows such as Suits, Gossip Girl and Covert Affairs, TV adverts for Chrysler and Toyota, and in films such as Summer Coda.
goodbyemotel’s live show has attracted huge attention, with the collective having created a unique 4D LIVE MUSIC EXPERIENCE that infuses film, 3D projection and live music all into one immersive live experience. They debuted this concept show in New York, with their 4D Show now having graced stages in the US, UK, Australia and Japan.
The cover art for iF, goodbyemotel’s newly recorded and yet-to-be released album, was created by Storm Thorgerson, the designer responsible for the album sleeves for most of Pink Floyd’s catalogue including the iconic “The Dark Side of the Moon”. After listening to their music and meeting the band a year before his very sad passing, he signed on straight away to create goodbyemotel’s artwork for their soon to be released album iF.
Being huge Pink Floyd fans, this was a major coup for the guys.
goodbyemotel plan to be back in Australia for summer 2014/15.
Hurricane is out now through Nice Bike Records/Sony Red in Australia & New Zealand.
